Redefining the music industry

In case you weren’t aware, The Barenaked Ladies are redefining everything that the music industry knew about itself (New Artist Model at Work). Notwithstanding their established success, BNL has been very effective at marketing itself using social media tools such as their own website, MySpace, iTunes and, yes, even Podcasting.

Mark, if you haven’t see it you should definitely check out this interview with the Ladies manager Terry McBride:

Not to take anything away from the guys in the band themselves, but McBride is IMHO the guru of the new music industry. I’ve heard him speak a few times, and this guy really gets this stuff and knows how to work it.

For the record, I got the *CD* (hey, rememer CDs?) version of the new BNL, and I think it’s excellent!
