I ran into this problem, I deleted the keychain entry for my wireless encryption, restarted, and everything has worked since then.

how do i do that? - specifically - step by step - i am no network pro but I need to get this thing fixed. I bought a brand spankin new 17" mbp - with a load of software and ram upgrades totalling 6 grand - and I can't stay on the internet for longer than 30 minutes at a time without the airport completely dying.

hey all, I just ran into this problem myself with the airport extreme update for my macbook core 2 duo and my DI-624 modem

it appears the new driver conflicts with WPA in the dlink router so I upgraded my router's firmware and went from WPA to WPA2 and problem is solved. spaguy says his fixed with WEP64 bit but if you dont want to drop enryption level try a firmware upgrade to get WPA2, at least, until apple releases a fix

good luck all

The latest update broke my Wifi too the (002) update. It appears in the Apple Forums, that those with Dl-624 and a few Berkley models of Routers with WPA encryption have the most problems. Turning WPA off or dropping to WEP 64bit usually fixes the broken connection. Should we have to drop our security or Apple make us another patch quick!
This repair does not work for me on my WPA encryption network it only works with security off. Same thing logs in to network. Pops up the window- "There was an error joining the Airport network "my network name here". Then offers Try again or OK, click OK then after a few seconds the Airport signal strength fades away. The only way it will login in is if I turn WPA off in my Dl-624 router.

Installed 2007-002, changing from WPA to WPA2 will give me maybe an 1/2 an hour of wireless time, then it looses the connection, and I can not connect with Airport. 2007-002 does not fix my Mac Book. I work in mfg, and this is a lack of simple test engineering prior to releasing a S/W update. RSS, strike one, WWAN update, a big strike two.

I'm worse off now with the Airport Extreme update than when I installed the WWAN support update - my wireless networking no longer works at all. Apple has only offered that I should reinstall my entire computer system (which seems like a very PC solution).

Any an all help is greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem. Talked to tier-two tech support at Apple. She walked me through the fix without admitting to any problems with the recent update I did. Got the 2.4ghz device info from her and was told that even 5.8ghz might zap it as well. This was last week. She mentioned I might wanna buy the new Airport too, be cause of the radio tower I have 3 blocks from my house. Ha! I guess Apple tech support are now sales people too...

Does anyone know if this is this the same problem as 10.4.8 not liking WPA and behaving the same way? I had a friend on a WPA router who ended up having to roll back to 10.4.7.

Instead of rebooting, just try closing the lid so it goes to sleep (i.e. the light starts pulsing) and then open it up again to wake it. That usually reestablishes the connection for me. I've had this problem since before the update btw.

Ah, ha!!! I've been having this problem as well and thought it was due to something not waking when going to sleep or somebody with a powerful 2.4ghz device interfering with it. It's good to know that it's just a crappy update and will be fixed...........eventually.

Thanks for the comments. I was not aware of the ability to ignore updates (I'm new to the Mac world). I will be sure to check it out. And, I will try out the suggested fixes later today.

As Jonathan said, you *can* ignore updates. It's the first item in the Updates menu. I would think that one would at least look through the menus before declaring a feature non-existant.

If you just highlight the update you dont wont, and press delete, it adds it to a permanent ignore list, until you "reset all ignored updates"

Hey Mark,

I ran the WWAN Support update and didn't notice any difference in my machine.

Did you fix your problem yet?

However, I decided to Google this in case I start getting calls from clients...and found this. http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070223093639733
